Blogger | Stylist | Co-Founder of Ascot+Hart
The ultimate modern woman multi-tasker, Laura Wiertzema goes by a long list of titles: style blogger, co-founder of a rad online shop, vintage addict, loving wife and mom. Indeed, Laura is the real deal and the total epitome of West coast cool, embodying a laid back easiness that wears Birkenstocks and fierce designer boots with equal aplomb.
Whether it’s unearthing a pair of vintage denim cut-offs shredded just right — trust her, they’re not all the same — for eager ascot + hart customers; introducing innovative obscure boutique brands to her blog readers, or wearing a paper party hat for her son’s birthday fiesta, Laura’s niceness, genuine passion and gratitude begets an abundantly full life. Residing in perennially sunny Long Beach, California, spot her cruising in her 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser — radio up, windows down, sunglasses on.
We love your handle, "Ascot Friday"! Can you tell us how you came up with that?
I used to work for a company that let us bring our dogs to work with us. I would bring my dog Mr. Fairbanks to work with me on Fridays. I started making him wear a little ascot on the days he would come with me and everyone at work loved it and him, and so we coined fridays as ‘Ascot Fridays.’ I loved the way that sounded and thought if I ever needed a name for a business or something that Ascot Friday would be it! Fast forward 10 years and here we are!
You're a stylist, blogger, mother and business owner. In other words, you do it all! What's your secret to staying organized and feeling creative?
Well the secret is that I’m not really that organized, but I feel that keeping a mantra of not sweating the small stuff keeps allows me to feel more creative and less stressed.
How did you get into blogging and do you have any advice for the newer generation of bloggers who are just getting into the business?
I started blogging as a creative outlet and six years later, it still remains that for me. For those just starting out, I suggest starting a blog to fuel a creative desire you may have. The more real and true you are to yourself, the more people will appreciate it.
What is your go to look fro day? For night?
I like to keep things simple. For day, denim shorts, a white tee, a layer of some sort.
For night, dark skinny jeans, same white tee from the morning, killer boots, and a vintage jacket.
What are you listening to now?
Who is your ultimate fashion muse?
Anita Pallenberg circa 1960, although she's still got some badass style today.
What does it mean to you to belong to Amuse Society?
I’m stoked to be apart of Amuse society because it represents a group of super rad chicks doing cool and inspiring things. As women we have a lot to learn from each other. I always feel so inspired when I come across someone who is doing what they love. I hope that this society of girls inspires others.
