Summer Cruz

Guest post Society babe and photographer Stefanie Vinsel.

There’s no better way to say sayonara to Summer, than with a road trip up the coast of California.

Traveling up the central coast I knew I had to take a few pitstops, the first being Santa Barbara. I stopped in the cute little town of Pismo Beach to grab a bite to eat and watch the sunset. San Luis Obispo, located just 10 minutes north, was the next destination and is definitely one of my favorites (which is also said to be one of America's happiest cities). This ultimately made feel good about spending the night there, since I would be spending it in my car. Yet another night spent in the back of my warm and cozy 4 door sedan, I was ready for whatever adventures lied ahead.

While visiting the quaint city of SLO, I always make sure to hit up Kreuzberg Coffee Company, a quirky coffee spot that roasts their own beans located in the heart of SLO. Kreuzberg offers a spacious, eccentric and laid back environment, perfect for a little photo editing sesh whilst sipping on a cup o’ joe.

Next and final stop was Santa Cruz to photograph my friends and musicians, Jamestown Revival at the Catalyst, a cool venue known for booking rad up and coming bands. Jamestown Revival had been traveling for the past month doing a west coast tour and Santa Cruz was their last stop. I was stoked to be part of their final gig which is a true, electric music show - a little bit country & a lotta bit rock and roll - my fav.

Quite a sweet end to a kick-ass road trip and yet another wild & crazy summer.

Desert Bloom

Amidst a new and beautiful landscape, the never-ending journey of our rock muse continues in the desert for our Holiday 2016 collection. Eager for a fresh perspective, she discovers a world that is surreal and unforgettable. She lives for moments like this, reveling in the warm sand and the view of mountains in the distance, climbing on rocks to feel the breeze. Inspired by her surroundings, she wears muted earth tones and pops of color that stand out like a cactus flower in the desert sun.

She is unmissable, a welcome contrast to a barren landscape, draped in soft, flowing fabrics, gauzy textures and patterns that pop against the blue sky. When the day gets cooler, she reaches for cozy jackets to layer over soft tees, a portrait of effortless style. She’s a rock ’n roll dream come true, and it’s the details that matter most: faux-fur jackets, ripped denim, embellished fabrics to catch the light. Her style still calls to mind long days in the sun, with skin-baring dresses that reach the ground in delicate florals and sun-faded colors.

She will never forget it: the thrill of the open air, the way the moon hangs low in the sky, the pieces that will forever be reminiscent of this place and its magic. The seclusion of the desert is humbling, invigorating. She takes a deep breath, then captures this moment in her memory to savor forever.

DIY After Sun Spray + Skin Care Tips

With the sun still shining brightly in our neck of the woods, we find it an ongoing necessity to keep our sun drenched skin super hydrated and well taken care of. We love to reach for natural products and ingredients to keep our summer bodies happy on the outside as well as the inside. Read on to learn how to make our easy DIY after sun spray and some of our favorite after sun tips from our Amuse team!

DIY After Sun Spray

This simple concoction is made up of just 4 natural ingredients. We believe in the power and benefit of essential oils and love using lavender and peppermint for this skin repairing spray.

After sun

  • 1/2 Cup Witch Hazel
  • 2 Tablespoons Pure Aloe Vera
  • 10 Drops Pure Lavender Essential Oil
  • 2-10 Drops of Pure Peppermint Essential Oil (depending on how sensitive your skin is)

Mix all ingredients together and add to an 8oz spray bottle, or two 4oz spray bottles. A funnel can be used for an easy pour. Avoid using spray around the eye area, so the peppermint doesn't get ya! Spray evenly on body after a day in the sun and relax!

After Sun Tips

"The Oribe Gold Lust Transformative Masque is legit! Great for repairing after summer hair." - Jade

"The Blue Lotus and White Tea Treatment Sheet Mask from Pur-Lisse is great to use post sun." - Andrea

"Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. My favorite is Epicuren Kukui Coconut After Bath Moisturizer. It leaves skin silky and smelling like vacations past :) I always bring the Epicuren Handbag Essential Trio Kit while on vacation. It comes with the moisturizer, face toner, and anti-aging lip balm with SPF - gotta protect your lips from the sun as well!" - Maria

"Having fair skin, I don't spend too much time in the sun but I do use Vitamin E Oil, or Epicuren Aloe Vera Calming Gel. And of course, SPF 70 before and during sun :)" - Angela

"I'm all about coconut oil by itself. I just rub it all over! Sometimes I use the Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion because I love the way it smells." - Crystal

"For my pre-beach prep, I use Sun Bum Salt Spray on my hair to protect color and prevent damage. It smells so good! I also use Sun Bum Clear Zinc on areas that tend to burn/get damaged easily like my shoulders, chest, and nose. I try to pack hydrating snacks like cucumber and watermelon to help skin from the inside out. After the sun, I rinse and then lather up with pure coconut oil." - Sarah

"Prevention is better than correction, so I load up on Sugar's Sport Treatment Sunscreen with SPF 30. It's the best balm I've tried and doesn't melt under the scorching sun. Also, I put a bit of Ouai hair oil before and after I take a dip. It smells amazing too." - Kelly

"After a swim in the ocean, just a tiny bit of Ava's paraben-free hair conditioner makes your hair manageable and silky smooth. You can even spray on before heading into the pool and it protects your hair from chlorine damage." - Mandy
